Top 5 Things To Do This Upcoming Fall: New England Edition

Mackenzie Sheldon | Opinion Editor

Autumn is Here!

With Fall starting next week, you’re probably starting to think about how to enjoy it to the fullest. Autumn is a favorite among college students. As the leaves start to fall and the cold air rolls in, here are the top 5 places you should go to in New England.

  1. Attend the Big E

The Big E (The Eastern State Exposition) is a fair in West Springfield, Massachusetts that runs through September 13th - 29th this year. You can find good food, carnival rides, vendors, animals, circus acts, shows, parades, and live performances. The highlight of the Big E is the state houses which feature replicas of each state’s capitol building. In each building, you’ll find products, foods, and history unique to that specific state. On September 29th, Big Time Rush will be performing so don’t miss it!

  2. Visit the Old Cider Mill

This is one of the oldest operating cider mills in the United States! I grew up going to this cider mill with my family to pick pumpkins. The mill offers freshly pressed apple cider, apple cider donuts, a farm stand, a petting zoo (with goats), and other seasonal items for sale. It’s a popular New England fall spot.

  3. Attend Six Flags Fright Fest

If you like Fall just for spooky season, this is the place you’ll want to be. Six Flags New England is holding its annual halloween-themes event this October. With scary decorations scattered throughout the park, haunted houses, scare zones with actors dressed up, and live performances, you will definitely get into the Halloween spirit here. Make sure you’re ready to be chased down by a scary clown or an evil doll; the actors don’t care if you cry. For the younger crowd, daytime activities are kid-friendly with trick-or-treating and less scary attractions.

  4. Visit the Mansfield Drive-In

If you’re looking for something more local to do, visit Mansfield Connecticuts Drive-In Movie Theater. Running up until early Fall, you will find triple features, concession stands with popcorn and candy, a flea Market (only on Sundays), and a welcoming family-friendly atmosphere. Check the Mansfield drive-in website to see which shows are being shown!

  5. Visit Salem Massachusetts

Lastly, a traditional visit to Salem Mass is always a fun way to celebrate the season. Valuing Massachusetts Halloween heritage, some highlights of a trip to Salem include Hunted attractions, festivals and parades, stunning fall foliage, streets filled with witch-themed merchandise, restaurants with seasonal dishes, and of course, the Witch House.

Have Fun this Fall!

New England is filled with fall-themed activities, especially in Massachusetts. Enjoy the crisp air and spooky vibes this October with any of these 5 trips!
