Women’s Basketball took on the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen last Saturday in the Little East Conference Championships. Winner of this game would punch their ticket into the NCAA Tournament. The Warriors were looking for their first win since 2020 when they defeated these Anchorwomen 49-44. As for Rhode Island College they were looking to win the championship for their third consecutive season. The Anchorwomen led all of the first half as they went into the locker room with a 29-22 lead. Warriors would call a timeout with 6:09 left in the third quarter that would give them the momentum they needed to go into the fourth quarter in a 13-2 run and with the game tied at 35. The Warriors would fall short against the Anchorwomen by a final score of 61-52. Even though these Warriors finished runner-ups in the Little East Conference, they were named to its 19th NCAA Division III tournament on Monday when it was granted an at-large bid to the 64-team tournament and faced Marietta College in their opening game at Ithaca College’s Ben Light Gymnasium yesterday at 5pm. Unfortunately the Warriors fell just short of a victory 61-57 to Marietta College and their season has come to an end. The Women’s Lacrosse season will start next Monday as they travel to Saratoga Springs, New York to take on Skidmore College at 6:30pm. They finished the 2022 season at .500 sitting at 8-8 as they will look to improve their last season's performance after being voted to finish 5th this season in the Preseason Coaches Poll. Men’s Lacrosse started their season on Monday where they traveled to Gordon College to take on the Fighting Scots. Attackers Brycen Kennedy and Tim Lichack would combine for six goals as the Warriors were able to win this game 11-7 to start the season 1-0. They would try to continue their positive season as they traveled today to take on the 0-2 Curry College kernels. Unfortunately the Warriors were not able to win this one with the final score being 16-7 as they drop their record to 1-1 on the season. Their next game will be next Wednesday as they will travel to University of Saint Joseph to take on the Blue Jays at 3:30pm. Men’s and Women’s Track and Field will travel to Medford, Massachusetts this weekend on March 4th in the Tufts University National Qualifying Meet and then will travel to Birmingham, Alabama on March 10th and 11th for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Softball planned to open up their season last weekend against New York University but due to the weather conditions those games were canceled. The first game of the season for the Warriors Softball team will be in Marshall Texas as they will take on Concordia University of Texas in a double header with the first game starting at 2pm. Softball opened their pre-season national poll rankings being ranked #17 nationally and will look to have another fantastic season making it all the way to the NCAA Division III National Tournament after being eliminated by Berry College last season. Finally, the reigning NCAA Division III Champions Eastern baseball team were voted #7 nationally in the pre-season polls for this season. They opened up their season last Friday as they traveled to Virginia Beach in a three game series against the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins. The Warriors would win both games on Friday as they outscored the Marlins 18-9 in the two games. Game three would not be played until Sunday but the Warriors were not phased by the rest as they were able to win that game by a score of 7-1. The sweep over the Marlins would open the Warriors season to a 3-0 record. This now extends the Warriors to a 26 game-winning streak over the past two seasons. This weekend's games against Dickinson College and Stevenson University have been canceled and the Warriors will now wait to play until March 8th where they will travel to Purchase College for a 3pm slated game.
