Student approval for Hurley Hall took a sudden downwards turn last week. The ratings for the 2/2/25-2/8/25 week were at 17% with 73 responses, but later fell to just 10% with 198 responses. That’s a 90% drop from the previous week reported in mid-December, when the approval rating was a hundred percent. This drop surprised many; a post on Fizz with over 1,300 upvotes read; ‘so we all just cancelling hurley now or what’s going on here (cry emoji)’.
It is important to mention that the hundred-percent approval came from the end of December, not only after classes finished, but after final exams as well (the 12/15-12/22 week). By then, very few students would have remained, so it cannot be taken as indicative of general sentiment.
Complaints against Hurley Hall are nothing new, being a common criticism especially from new students without kitchens. An initiative last year tried to open the Food Court on weekends in order to provide an alternate option, but didn’t see enough usage to keep it open.
When asked for comment on the current drop, Director of Dining Services Joseph Salvaggio said; “...We have been having a lot of technical difficulties with the Happy or Not kiosks which in turn has not been reporting back to the website properly. We have ordered new tablets for the kiosks, which should be here in the next week or two.” As of now, the Happy or Not button is out of order, with a sign reading; Update: Due to technical difficulties, our Happy or Not kiosks are temporarily out of order.
