Hunter Hayes Coming to ECSU

Stacey Addo | Arts and Entertainment Editor

Every year, the Campus Activity Board plans a week full of themed activities during the fall season, creating the annual event known as Fall Fest. This year, CAB and Eastern Connecticut State University will host musician Hunter Hayes on Sept. 24 at the Shaboo stage in downtown Willimantic.

While best known for country, Hunter Hayes is a multi-talented artist. He sings music in several genres and is also a songwriter, producer, and proficient in over 30 instruments.

This past year, he has been touring for the first time in four years to support his recent album, “Red Sky.” His concert here in Willimantic will also be in support of his album, so fans, students, and guests can expect to hear music from the artist's newest album with the possibility of some of his popular hits.

Alyssa Duffy, associate director of student activities at ECSU said, “an artist of Hunter’s caliber performing in Willimantic is exciting for all involved. We’re looking forward to seeing it bring everyone together,” said when talking about the event with Noel Teter.

Hayes rose to fame in 2011 when his self-titled album reached number seven on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Country Albums selling over 1.1 million copies. His most successful single from the album, “Wanted”, sold over 3.5 million copies making Hayes the youngest male act to top the Billboard Hot Country Songs.

Along with his commercial success, Hayes received numerous awards. His talent prompted Billboard to name him the leader of “Country Music’s Youth Revolution” in 2014. He was nominated for five Grammy Awards, won three Broadcast Music Inc. awards, and won the 2012 Country Music Award for New Artist of the Year.

Doors for the concert will open at 3 p.m. and Hayes will take the stage at 5 p.m.

Anyone interested in going to the concert should visit Eastern’s website to purchase tickets. Tickets are $10 for Eastern students, $15 for their guests, and $30 for the general public.
