With April showers comes May flowers...and a new set of entertainment releases in film and television shows. Here are some of the most anticipated releases for May 2023 for Netflix and film, as well as a sneak peek into some summer releases.
Netflix
For fans of Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte’s story will be expanded upon May 4th. It will follow the Queen’s story in a limited series of six episodes detailing her origin story and early love life. The series is also expected to feature Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury in their younger years.
If you are looking for a more action-packed film, The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez will follow the story of a female assassin who is dedicated to protecting her daughter right in time for Mother’s Day.
For a more summery, lighthearted television series, XO, Kitty is a spin-off of the highly popular To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before will follow Laura Jean’s youngest sister as she attends the Korean Independent School of Seoul navigating her own journey of love.
Jada Pinkett Smith is the executive producer and narrator of Queen Cleopatra, a documentary following what she considers to be “the world’s most famous, powerful and misunderstood woman.”
Film
For Marvel fans, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on May 5th. This will be the last movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
Hypnotic is a science fiction thriller movie following a detective played by Ben Affleck who is searching for his daughter who is missing.
Releasing on May 19th, Fast X will become the tenth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise.
Disney’s live action imagining of The Little Mermaid directed by Rob Marshall and starring Halle Bailey and Jo ah Hauer-King.
Summer Releases
On June 2nd, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release as the sequel to the highly popular Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as Miles Morales reunites with his companions to fight a new villain.
Harrison Ford returns as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Barbie with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling team up as Barbie and Ken as they venture into the real world, releasing on July 21st.
