The Eastern Connecticut State University Dance Team is a club on campus that functions under the leadership of their E-board members with the guidance of their instructor Rebecca Perno and the management of Student Activities.The purpose of the Dance Team is to promote school spirit, provide timeout and halftime entertainment at athletic events, and represent the school community in all dance team appearances and competitions at a state level, regionally, and/or nationally. The mission of the Dance Team is to provide dancers with a successful and meaningful experience in a positive and healthy environment.
One might access information on the Dance Team if they are interested in joining or being involved in the campus community and going to a dance-based club that performs at community events and raises school spirit through movement. Students are encouraged to reach out in the spring or at the start of the fall if they are interested in being a part of the ECSU Dance Team for the following season.
People who are looking for a safe and fun environment to express themselves through dance are encouraged to reach out and be a part of the team. The spring and fall tryouts are hosted for Eastern students who are interested in being a part of the journey for the upcoming season. If you are an incoming first-year at Eastern, the Dance Team holds online tryout video submissions, which can be found through their Instagram account.
Eastern’s Dance Team has several locations on campus. You can find their advisor James Fieldings, in the facilities management and planning building in room 307. A lot of information about Eastern’s competitive dance team can be found in the student activities office located in the student center. Another way to access information about the dance team is through the Eastern website under clubs and organizations, just search “dance team.” Furthermore, any additional information can be found through the dance team's Instagram account (@ecsudanceteam). Additionally, the competitive dance team holds their practices in the sports center dance studio room 104.
The competitive Dance Team is a part of the Eastern community, providing access to a dance-based club for those who are interested. Additionally, the competitive dance team allows athletes to gain competition experience, both regional and national, that students may otherwise not get. The competitive dance team also brings a sense of community and spirit to Eastern’s student body, faculty, and families.
The Dance Team’s mission is fulfilled through performing fun and entertaining dances at sporting events such as combined halftime performances with the Eastern cheerleading team, spirit-raising events: such as welcoming students and families at public Eastern events, as well as other campus performances. The Eastern competitive dance team also holds fundraisers throughout the school year to support their goal of representing the Eastern community at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Nationals at the ESPN Center in Florida.
